Lady luck tips her glass once again at Mercedes as Lewis lead grows in Japan

The Briton, who started from pole position, crossed the line 1.2 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo to move 59 points clear at the top of the overall standings. Max made his mark on the 2017 Japanese Grand Prix with this incredible opening lap:

Looking forward, Hamilton needs to look behind him

OK, so let's take stock with whats left.  What might be in store for the world championship? RAI Average points haul over the last 15 races is 9.2 points. If he was to step up to VET's average of 16.4 FER (a big ask) it would still be almost mathematically impossible to fight for the lead or hope to secure a constructors championship.  BOT has just been too strong.  We, therefore, assume team orders will be implemented and RAI will become little more than a wingman for Ferrari and Vettel.

Is Vandoorne showing Alonso up?

Many say Alonso is the best driver in the world.  This may be so, or it might be more evident if he could finish a race, but if it is, and we take a look at the current driver standing we might also make a couple of assumptions that:

The last pieces of the driver 2018 puzzle reveal themselves…

The track that Hamilton once described at "twice as hard to negotiate" than the more famous Monaco street circuit has a polymer modified binder, which was laid on the track surface to offer vehicles 20% more grip. Taking this year's wider bodies and higher grip levels, it is not surprising that most teams have gone for the maximum adhesion options.

Paul the best of di Resta? Williams seeking options for 2018?

Today, I suggest we saw the start of “exploring options”.  Back up plans.  With Felipe who returned from his departure to fill an empty seat and act as a mentor for Stroll probably reaching the limit of what he has to offer, expectations are that his seat will become available next year.

Was there an oil pressure problem or did Alonso refuse to carry on?

Alonso never really ever had any expectation of finishing in the points, he was anticipating “13th or 14th but in reality, it was looking like last.  His optimisms of improvements by Budapest are equally cool.

No Penalty for Hamilton getting in the way

A statement issued by the FIA said: "The stewards examined video and telemetry evidence and concluded that while GRO may potentially have been affected by the presence of HAM at Turn 16, he was not impeded."
