Ex Renault boss Frederic Vasseur to head Sauber F1

If paddock rumours are correct we expect to see official statements from Sauber in the coming hours or days following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix announcing he is to head up the Sauber F1 team.

Some say the ex Renault F1 boss fell on his own sword in light of the under performing engine used by the Red Bull cars over the last few years that suffered with similar technological issues currently facing McLaren and the ill fated power unit.

Sauber are also rumoured to be adopting Honda as suppliers for the 2018 F1 Championship. We should not need to expand on the issues that currently face Honda power, but it might be wise to expect a resurgence to form and perhaps the experience of Vasseur will be a perfect match for Honda who perhaps just need more track time and testing to come out fighting. This approach to risk from Sauber, who frankly have nothing to loose (currently running last years Ferrari engine) could be a smart move for all involved in 2018 with little to loose and everything to gain. We will se how things unfold.

Sauber drivers (Ericsson and Wehrlein) qualified in 15th and 18th for the Azerbaijan GP and are currently in 9th position in the constructors title only a head of McLaren who are still to put an entry on their scorecard.
